I remember first connecting to the internet way back in 1995. I logged on using a modem at 14,400bps and used Netscape as the browser. There was no Internet Explorer then.
I searched using Yahoo or Lycos and remember the typical search results being utter rubbish.
This pattern for search results, you type something in and get loads of rubbish back, continued for many years.
Search did improve and Google has had a big part in that in my view.
Lately it seems that plain text searches, typically typing in a regular sentence rather than just key words, returns some really amazing results.
Here's an example.
Last night I was watching The Bourne Supremacy. There's a scene towards the end where Bourne sends the CIA off on a wild goose chase while he breaks into Noah Vosen's office.
The CIA realise they have been tricked and come screeching back into the city.
I've been wondering about one of the cars in this scene, wondering what kind of a car it is.
So I typed in tonight "what type of cars are used in the bourne ultimatum" and it resulted in this.
And on the page is a whole host of screen grabs from the film. Amazing.
I found out the type of car. That's really useful search.
