What the heck was this all about?
Michael Richards, known to most TV viewers as Kramer from the show Seinfeld, has disgraced himself big-style by letting off a foul-mouthed racist rant at some people in the audience at a comedy club.
The issue seems to have been that some of the audience were heckling him, or perhaps they were just talking while he was doing his set.
Either way the reaction was just insane.

I wonder what the defense for this will be from Richards. Surely his career is doomed.

I saw "The Michael Richards Show." His career was doomed long ago.
You are so funny. I have to say I wasn't a big Seinfeld fan so I don't know much about it but I can certainly say that this isn't the way to make a name for yourself.. at least not in any kind of career-enhancing way.
In the video I think you can hear people gasping and you can see them all heading for the doors.
And then the Compere gets up and says.. "uh, sorry"
