Anyway I was bursting for the toilet and a trip to the loo in the department store made sense as stage 1 of the shopping trip.
The situation

Took the escalator to the next floor where the women's toilet was and noticed nobody waiting. Decided this was a better option. Marched in. Granted there were a few onlookers at the sinks looking a bit shocked.
Quickly located a cubicle, nipped inside and proceded to answer the call of nature.
Justified?

If women really want equality, then when there's a "line" (as we crazy Americans say) at the men's room you have every right to use the ladies' room! Lord knows I've used enough men's rooms in my time...
Absolutely justified.
And - glad the onion trick worked! Sounds like another good Sunday bbq!
M. You're the second person who thought that so in my book that's a consensus. Looks like it's OK for men to use the women's toilet and vice versa.
I thought that the toilet rule only applied at outdoor concerts and in places where everyone is hammered drunk, such as a new year's eve party.
I agree - outdoor concerts where people are elegantly wasted, well, that's where I get violent (at least in my head) about the toilet rule. There is always a line for the women's room, and you bastardly men can just up and use the bushes.
Try and squat with your pants around your ankles after a bunch of beer - that's why there's always a line for the ladies' room! Safer for everyone!
